A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks his first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better service.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
